After forty years of teaching English and speech and drama, I am fascinated, still, by the mystery of the human voice; especially when it is used to interpret poetry and drama and stories.
You can't see it - touch it - taste it- or smell it but we, all, have experienced that profound and inexplicable feeling of being moved by the sound of a particular human voice, haven't we?
This was brought home to me when I was visiting our local home for the aged. One ninety-three year old lady recited a poem from her girlhood which delighted all of us priveleged to hear her. This experience, reminded me of the value of introducing people, especially children, to the treasures of the body of literature we have in our civilization.
When somebody speaks to us, even before we have identified the meaning of the words, we are under the spell of the dynamics of the voice we are hearing.
Whether it's the soaring notes of Pavarotti or the hushed tones of a mother speaking to her child, I'm sure you have experienced, as I have, that magical connection between the speaker and listener.
Because we can't SEE the human voice and its empowering properties, it is often left unexplored.

I've enjoyed so much recording these pieces and I believe that once you realize the value of your own voice, you will not only feel graciously empowered in your daily interactions with people, but you will have so much fun interpreting and presenting your very own performance!
